Room Block Management in the Crossfire
Edited by Maxine Golding
Getting hotels to give meeting
groups credit for attendees
booking outside the block should
be a no-brainer. But that’s not
what some meeting planners are
finding. These and other issues
in room block management took
center stage on the CNN
Crossfire set at George
Washington University, where the
PCMA Capital Chapter staged
“Meeting Industry in the
Crossfire II.”

Whos ROCH and ROB?
By Gary Schirmacher, CMP
Today's meetings industry faces
many challenges. This is a year
where we have experienced some
major obstacles including a soft
economy, a war, SARS, a blackout
and now a major hurricane. The
issues of Rooms Outside
Contracted Hotels (ROCH) and
Rooms Outside the Block (ROB)
seem to continue to wreak havoc
for both meeting planners and
hotels. Associations, Hotels and
3rd Party Meeting Planners are
working diligently to try and
find solutions to the problem of
a more web savvy attendee and
the fact that there are more
hotel rooms available on the web
than ever before.
